Golf Concierge or Book It Yourself?

How to decide for your Japan golf trip

Quick answer

Book it yourself if you can use the course’s own booking route and handle the communication in Japanese; you save the service fee. Use a concierge if you do not read Japanese, want a specific course that is hard to reach on your own, or want clubs and transport arranged in one place. Either way, compare the total for the same course, date and group size.

When does booking yourself work?

Many Japanese courses are open to the public, and you do not need a membership to play them. Booking yourself works well if you read Japanese, if the course you want takes reservations in a way you can use, and if you are comfortable handling questions from the course about your group, start time and arrival.

The usual sticking points are a booking route that only works in Japanese, guest registration forms, and small-group or solo rules that differ from course to course.

When is a golf concierge worth the fee?

You do not read Japanese. The service handles the reservation, the guest registration each club requires, and any back-and-forth with the course.

You want a particular course. Many prestigious clubs require a member introduction. A service helps only if it has an arrangement with that club, so ask before you plan around it. Our 37 partner courses across 15 prefectures accept our guests without a membership or introduction.

You want one point of contact. Rental clubs delivered to the course, a caddie where the club offers one, and transfers can go in the same request. Their charges are quoted separately, and who you pay and when is confirmed in the quote.

Comparing booking services

Services differ in which courses they can book and in how they charge, so compare the total for the same course, date and group size. Common questions

Do I need a golf concierge to play in Japan?

No. Many Japanese courses are open to the public, and if you can use the course’s own booking route and handle the communication in Japanese, you can book directly. A concierge helps most when you do not read Japanese, want a specific course that does not take outside bookings easily, or want rentals and transport arranged in one place.

Is booking golf in Japan yourself cheaper?

It saves the concierge’s fee. Whether the total is lower depends on the course, date, group size and what is included, so compare the full price for the same course, date and group on each route. Elite Golf Japan does not add a markup to the green fee; our charge is the separate booking fee.

What does Elite Golf Japan charge?

US$60–US$120 per booking for one to four golfers, or US$30 per golfer for five or more (US$60 solo, US$90 for two or three, US$120 for four), charged only once your tee time is secured. Green fees are separate and paid at the course on the day.

Can a concierge get me onto a members-only course?

Only where the service has an arrangement with that club. Many prestigious Japanese clubs require a member introduction. Elite Golf Japan’s 37 partner courses accept our guests without a membership or introduction; for other courses, ask before you plan around them.
