Group Golf Trips to Japan

Booking for five or more golfers, from one round to a multi-day tour

Quick answer

Japanese courses play in groups of up to four, so a party of five or more is booked as several groups, on consecutive tee times where the course has space. Elite Golf Japan arranges group bookings for a booking fee of US$30 per golfer per booking, with green fees paid at the course. Each course sets its own rules for groups — some limit the number of groups and some decline tour groups — so we confirm acceptance for your party first. Larger groups often face earlier cancellation deadlines, so confirm numbers early. For several days of golf, we plan a custom tour.

How do group golf bookings work in Japan?

Groups of up to four. A party of eight plays as two groups of four; a party of six might play as two groups of three. We request consecutive tee times, and whether the course can give them depends on its availability that day. We split the party with you before we request the times, since some courses charge more per player for groups smaller than four.

One request covers everyone. Send the dates, total number of golfers, and preferred course or area. We check that the course accepts a group of your size and can take the number of tee times you need on that day. Some courses cap the number of groups, for example groups with caddies, and some do not accept tour groups; if your first choice cannot take you, we suggest alternatives.

Everyone settles at the course. Green fees, cart, caddie where it applies, and lunch are paid at the course on the day. Ask the course in advance if your group wants one combined bill.

What does a group booking cost?

Our booking fee depends on the size of the booking:

Golfers Booking fee (per booking)
1 golfer US$60
2 golfers US$90
3 golfers US$90
4 golfers US$120
5+ golfers US$30 per golfer
Example: 8 golfers US$240
Example: 12 golfers US$360

The fee is charged only once the tee times are secured. Green fees are set by each course and are separate; the full breakdown is in what golf in Japan costs. Rental clubs for players who travel without a bag can be added; see renting golf clubs in Japan.

What should a group organizer check before booking?

Cancellation terms for several groups. Courses set their own fees, and some start earlier for multi-group bookings. At Ibusuki Golf Club, for example, fees for three or more groups start 7 days before play instead of 3. We show each course’s terms before you confirm.

Changes in numbers. Whether you can add or drop players, and until when, is set by the course. Ibusuki accepts changes until the day before play, but once its cancellation fees apply, reducing the number of groups does not waive them, and a smaller group can change the per-player surcharge. Other courses differ.

Non-golfers. At Ibusuki Golf Club, partners who are not playing can use the clubhouse and restaurant but cannot go out on the course. Other courses set their own rules, so ask about the course you have in mind.

Transport. Many courses are outside the cities and some have no club bus. Airport and hotel transfers can be arranged on request at additional cost.

Dates. Japanese holiday periods such as Golden Week, Obon and New Year are the busiest for travel, and some courses charge weekend rates on weekdays during them. See when to book golf in Japan.

Can you plan a multi-day group golf tour?

Yes. For several rounds over several days, we plan a custom itinerary around your dates, courses and group size. A multi-day tour is secured with a deposit that depends on the tour, and the course’s cancellation terms apply to each round. Start on our tours page, or browse courses by area in golf near Tokyo.

Common questions

Can you book golf in Japan for a group of more than four?

Yes. Japanese courses play in groups of up to four, so a larger party is booked as several groups. We request consecutive tee times, subject to the course’s availability on your date. Courses decide whether and how they accept groups — some limit the number of groups, and some decline tour groups — so we confirm this with the course for your party before anything is charged. For five or more golfers our booking fee is US$30 per golfer per booking.

How much does it cost to book golf for a group in Japan?

Our booking fee for five or more golfers is US$30 per golfer per booking — for example US$240 for eight golfers or US$360 for twelve. Green fees are separate, set by each course and paid at the course on the day.

Do larger groups face different cancellation terms?

Often, yes. Some courses start charging cancellation fees earlier for bookings of several groups; at Ibusuki Golf Club, for example, fees for three or more groups start 7 days before play rather than 3. We give you each course’s terms before you confirm.

Can you plan a multi-day golf tour for our group?

Yes. Tell us your dates, group size, preferred courses or regions and anything else you want included, and we plan a custom itinerary. Multi-day tours are secured with a deposit, which depends on the tour, and the course’s cancellation terms apply to each round.

Can non-golfers in our group come along?

It depends on the course. At Ibusuki Golf Club, for example, non-playing companions are welcome in the clubhouse and restaurant but cannot go out on the course. Ask us about the course you have in mind.
